Sulfuric Acid NFPA 704 Diamond Sign: Health 3, Flammability 0, Instability 2, Water Reactive
Post the correct NFPA 704 rating for sulfuric acid on battery rooms, acid storage areas, water treatment chemical rooms and plating lines. Sulfuric acid carries a 3-0-2-W rating: Health 3 (serious injury on short exposure, severe burns), Flammability 0 (does not burn), Instability 2 (violent chemical change at elevated temperature or pressure), and the W with a line through it, meaning it reacts dangerously with water. Confirm the rating against your supplier's Safety Data Sheet, Section 16, since dilute solutions are often rated differently.
The sign uses the standard NFPA 704 diamond with blue, red and yellow quadrants and the water reactive symbol in the white field. Fire crews rely on that symbol to choose the right extinguishing method.
